WHO THE HELL IS CAGENT AUTHOR?

Cagent is the main author of the blog 'cognitiveagent.org'. This blog deals with actual problems seen from the perspective of Philosophy as well as Science. Occasionally aspects of art and theology are also discussed. The German version of the blog contains in June 2017 more than 2000 pages.

Cagent as a real person was from his education a philosopher, theologian in the beginning, turned then to Philosophy of Science, Psychology, different parts of the Cognitive Sciences, was working as scientist for different institutions and companies, founded a software startup and finally worked as assistant professor (2001-2005) and then as full professor (2005-2017) at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. He was member of the faculty of Computer Science and Engineering and lectured since 2005 mainly in the topics 'artificial intelligence' and 'human-machine interaction'. In this time he has introduced the E-Learning system of the university and has founded a new interdisciplinary Master program in the university.

Because of his theoretical background his teaching of artificial intelligence and human-machine interaction was not purely restricted to algorithms (what is often the practice in these fields) but also guided by methodological questions, relationships of these fields to other disciplines, especially the real and possible relationship between human persons and the upcoming intelligent machines. In his methodological thinking he was (and is) heavily influenced by the structuralist version of the philosophy of science (as described by the Bourbaki program of Mathematics, by Sneed, Stegmüller, Balzer and Moulines), by the Systems Engineering approach as practiced in South Africa, and by the empirical Psychology of behavior, perception, memory, thinking etc. He did also some mathematical modeling of real neurons.

Now, as a retired professor, he continuous focusing on the question of the future of homo sapiens and super intelligent machines. This includes question who homo sapiens (= we!) is, what his potential is, and how super intelligence can work at all. Actually he is also writing (together with others) a new book about Human-Machine Interaction seen as part of Systems Engineering. The book will also contain chapters about Systems Engineering as a Science.

In his opinion the public discussion is not yet dealing with the real hot spots of the future of homo sapiens and intelligent machines. There is a heavy focus on the brain, which as such is good, but this focus is usually not including the body and the evolutionary aspects of a body with a brain, which induced technology and complex cultures.
